Job Description
COACH
DEFINITION
Assist in the implementation of an interscholastic sports program; to instruct and train sports activities groups in attaining proficiency in sport related functions; and to do other related functions as directed.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position requires professional expertise in interscholastic sports activities commonly associated with public schools. The position makes decisions of considerable consequence in determining how best to compete in a secondary school sports program. The functional role of this position requires the application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, regulations and policies. This a non-sedentary position that performs light to medium work that involves walking, running and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational sport learning aids, materials and objects, and providing oral information and direction.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and participate in the interscholastic sports program
- Plan, organize, and coordinate sports activities and training workouts and coach individuals concerning specific physical performance activities and procedures
- Instruct and demonstrate the principles, methods and techniques of the related sport activity
- Observe sport participants during practice and workout sessions to detect and correct errors in procedures and methods
- Develop and implement physical conditioning programs that allow athletes to achieve maximum performance
- Coordinate travel for games and activities
- Confer with, counsel, and advise site administrators concerning interscholastic sports programs and activities
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective interscholastic sports program
- Policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to interscholastic sport performances

Ability to:
- Provide specialized resource support and coordination of a creative and innovative interscholastic sports program
- Analyze and assess interscholastic sports program needs, and offer recommendations pertaining to program activity revisions, additions, or deletions
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relationships.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Must be eligible for or hold valid certification from the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board as a coach.
In accordance with policy GBEC and procedure GBEC-R all new employees must submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Employee must consent to and provide the necessary documentation (fingerprinting, etc.) to allow for a criminal background check.
