Qualifications:

Candidate must meet eligibility as either a Speech-Language Pathology Aide or Speech-Language Pathology Assistant. Candidates starting as an aide would be eligible to become an assistant once qualified.

 

Speech-Language Pathology Aide:  

Must hold or be eligible for “Aide Registration” under Chapter 5 of Wyoming Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology Rules and Regulations. Some of the certification requirements under Chapter 5 include:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Supervision agreement executed between applicant and supervising licensee
  • Training plan submitted for 25 hours of direct supervised client contact and 25 hours of direct observational training

 

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant:  

Must hold or be eligible for “Certification” under Chapter 12 of Wyoming Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology Rules and Regulations. Some of the certification requirements under Chapter 12 include:

  • Associate’s degree as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant or a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
  • A minimum of 15 credit hours in clinical related coursework

 

Description of Position:

Under direct supervision of a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist, completes a variety of tasks such as activities designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. Works with students who have identified speech language disorders as well as other disabilities. The scope and limitations of speech specific duties will depend on the qualifying area of the successful candidate: Aide or Assistant. The successful candidate also performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities and Duties under the Direction of a Licensed SLP:

  1. The following responsibilities and duties will depend on the candidates qualifying areas as either an Aide or an Assistant.
    1. Conducts speech and language screenings, without interpretation, and uses screening protocols developed by the Speech Language Pathologist
    2. Provides direct treatment assistance to students; follows and implements documented treatment plans or protocols; documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to therapist
    3. Assists the therapist during assessments by assisting with documentation and performing clerical duties; prepares therapy material and/or equipment for use in therapy activities
    4. Adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities
    5. Assists in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs and reports; observes and reports significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the therapist
    6. Prepares various teaching materials such as charts, pictures, word lists, and other related items
    7. Demonstrates a willingness to accept other related duties as assigned

 

In accordance with policy GBEC and procedure GBEC-R all new employees must submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
