Reports to:       Food Service Director

 

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for preparing appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements.  Maintain high standards of quantity of food production, sanitation, and safety practices.

 

Qualifications:

Must read, write, and understand verbal instructions in English.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production.  One-year experience in quantity food production preferred but not required.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes
  2. Maintain proper storage and care of food items and supplies; maintain a clean and organized storage area
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and follow care and use of equipment
  4. Maintain sanitary working conditions to eliminate contamination
  5. Meet all scheduled meal times, portions, and serve the food per departmental policies and procedure
  6. Maintain garbage collection in a neat and sanitary fashion
  7. Enforce standards of cleanliness, health and safety
  8. Maintain professional appearance and hygiene
  9. Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members
  10. Perform other duties as requested by the Kitchen Manager or the Food Service Director whenever his/her duties and/or experience would be necessary to initiate, coordinate, or complete any given program

 

Equipment Used:

Use large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, sharp cutting tools, ovens, dishwasher, and food/utility carts.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Repetitive hand motion. Work with frequent interruption. Limited exposure to extreme hot/cold temperatures. Stand, walk, pushes and pulls, lifts and carries, some stooping, bending, and kneeling most of the day. Lift and carry up to fifty pounds. Perceiving the nature of sound, taste and smell, near and far visual acuity, depth perception, providing oral information, manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
