Qualifications: 

At minimum, qualified candidates must hold or be eligible for certification by the Wyoming Professional Teachers Standard Board authorizing service as a speech/language pathologist and/or hold (be eligible for) a license with the Wyoming Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Preference may be given to candidates who have completed all program requirements and are fully certified (Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Hearing and Language Association) as a speech language pathologist.

 

Description of Position:

Act under the general direction of the building principal(s) of the assigned school(s), as well as the Director of Special Services. Perform the evaluative/diagnostic duties for students referred for evaluation of suspected speech and/or language problems. Assist with the development of educational plans to meet the specific needs of students who would qualify for special education services as prescribed by both local and federal rules/regulations, governing service to students with disabilities. Provide direct speech and language services to students with disabilities as prescribed by the IEP. Provide consultative services to teachers and parents to facilitate generalization of appropriate speech and language for students across settings. Provide case management for students with speech and/or language disabilities.

 

This is a sedentary position classification and performs light work that involves sitting a portion of the time, but does require walking and standing for extended periods.  This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, working with educational materials and objects, and providing oral information and direction. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.  

 

This is considered a district-wide position, with assignments based on meeting student needs. In addition to the school year contract, extended school year assignments may be assigned.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Evaluates and diagnoses specific deficits of referred students within the school district that would meet criteria set forth by local, state and federal regulations for services to students with speech and language related disabilities. Evaluation of students will be completed as set forth in local, state and federal rules and regulations.
  2. Interprets data collected from evaluations of referred student and shares that information in a formal report so that parents, staff and others are able to understand the functioning level of specific student. From this data, must be able to give conclusions and recommendations for the development of an IEP for the specific student as needed for SLP programming.
  3. Consults with building principal, parents and staff regarding the speech/language and educational needs of students.
  4. Provides speech and language services to students as directed by the IEP.
  5. Writes IEP goals and objectives for speech and language services.
  6. Provides case management for students with speech and/or language disabilities. This includes educational and behavioral monitoring, writing and submitting regular progress reports, scheduling and conducting IEP meetings, maintaining effective communication with parents, and working with school staff to carry out provisions of each child’s IEP.
  7. Demonstrates a willingness to accept other related duties as assigned.

In accordance with policy GBEC and procedure GBEC-R all new employees must submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Employee must consent to and provide the necessary documentation (fingerprinting, etc.) to allow for a criminal background check.
