BUS PARAPROFESSIONAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to the Transportation Director
Job Summary: Assists driver in management and control of students assigned. Assignment could be on different buses throughout the year depending on need.
Major Duties:
- Is able to perform pre-trip inspection, properly operate the specialized equipment, and assists students while loading and unloading the bus.
- Fastens required restraining devises securely. Becomes familiar with proper handling techniques for all student transported.
- Has the ability to direct substitute drivers in the absence of the assigned driver.
- Is not accompanied by own children while on assignment.
- Ensures safely of students during seizures.
- Ability to monitor student conduct. Being alert to emotional and physical conditions that may affect the safety and/or welfare of students.
- Ability to operate the two-way radio.
- Must dress appropriately while on assignment.
- Must be able to dead lift 30 pounds.
- Handles on-board pupil management while the bus is in motion. (This is a shared duty when the bus is parked.)
- Assists the driver in cleaning the bus.
- Ability to work with other students, parents, drivers, teacher, and school administrators.
- Performs other job related duties as necessary.
In accordance with policy GBEC and procedure GBEC-R all new employees must submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Employee must consent to and provide the necessary documentation (fingerprinting, etc.) to allow for a criminal background check. |
