Applicant holds a current Educational Sign Language Interpreter Permit through the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board. Have obtained a score of 3.5 or greater on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment: American Sign Language. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

 

Consideration for applicants that would eligible to hold an Educational Sign Language Interpreter Permin through the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board specific to American Sign Language. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

 

Final consideration for applicants that have a potential to meet the Educational Sign Language Interpreter Permit specific to the area of American Sign Language within a year’s time. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Compensation:

Negotiable based on type of service, qualifications, and experience.

 

Description of the Position:

Districtwide postion supervised through the Department of Special Services.

Reports to building principal and under the guidance of special education staff.

Daily hours between 6.5 and 7.5 hours a day.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpreter/tutorial assistance to the students who qualify for services under Hearing Disability
  • Effectively facilitate communication between individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing and those who are hearing
  • Posesses a high level of fluency in American Sign Language and the English Language
  • Keen ability to focus on what is being said
  • Broad-based world knowledge and professional, ethical conduct
  • Serves all parties in the communication exchange
  • Abililty to assess the communication preferences or language level of the individual who is deaf or hard of hearing and then adapt their interpretation to meet these needs
  • Understand the meaning and intentions expressed in one language and express those meanings and intentions in the other language
  • Ability to retain information and manage the flow of the communication
  • Understand and manage the cultural nuances of the environment
  • Engage in professional and ethical standards consistent of their profession
  • Other duties within the scope and expectations of a Educational Sign Language Interpreter
